  • How do I view the maps in 3D?

    Click on the map view drop-down on the top-right side of the map and click Maps 3D.

  • I can't see the maps in 3D. What can I do?

    To use Maps 3D on, you need a browser that can handle WebGL technology.

    We recommend a recent version of Chrome (14+) or Firefox (8+).

    To use Safari, you'll need to turn on the WebGL setting yourself. To use Internet Explorer, you'll need the Google Chrome Frame add-on.

  • What do I need to use HERE 3D on my Windows PC?

    You’ll need the following. (Note: most recent PCs easily meet these requirements.)

  • What do I need to use HERE 3D on my Mac?

    You need at least the following:

    • Mac OS X 10.5 (ideally 10.6 or higher)
    • Intel 1.5GHz processor (ideally at least 1.8Ghz)
    • 1GB of RAM (ideally at least 4GB)
    • 2GB free space on your hard drive (ideally 10GB)
    • A 3D-capable graphics card with 64MB (ideally 512MB or higher) of VRAM (Intel integrated graphics processors in earlier MacBook generations may run slowly). Your graphics card needs to work with WebGL 2.0 technology.

  • My computer meets the requirements, but I still can't use Maps 3D. Anything I can try?

    It could be that your graphics card driver is out of date. Try searching for a new driver on the internet.

  • How can I navigate around HERE Maps 3D using my mouse?

    To move left or right, hold down the left mouse button and drag the map around.

    To tilt, hold down the right mouse button, then move up to increase the tilt angle or down to decrease it. (This works for all browsers except Safari.)

    To rotate the map, hold down the right mouse button and move left or right.

    To zoom in, double click with the left mouse button. To zoom out, do the same with the right mouse button. You can also use your mouse wheel to zoom.

  • How can I navigate around HERE Maps 3D using my keyboard?

    To move left or right, use the left/right arrow keys. For constant movement, hold one key down.

    To tilt, hold down the ‘Shift’ key and press the up/down arrows.

    To rotate the map, hold down the ‘Shift’ key and press the left/right arrows.

    To zoom, use the + or – key.

  • What can I do if the 3D images look strange?

    The 3D map may take a few seconds to load. During this time, the 3D image may look strange. Wait a few seconds and the image should clear up.

  • How can the map look truly 3D (with 3D glasses)?

    A selection of cities is available in true 3D. You’ll need a normal (blue-and-red) pair of 3D glasses to see them.

    1. Click on the map view drop-down on the upper-right of the map
    2. Click on Maps 3D
    3. Click on Cities to see which cities you can see in true 3D
    4. Choose a city and click on the little 3D glasses

    Now put on your 3D glasses and enjoy the view.

  • Why isn’t my city in 3D?

    Not all cities are available in 3D. To see which ones are:

    1) Open the map view drop-down menu on the upper right of the screen
    2) Click on Maps 3D
    3) Click on Cities

  • What's Google Chrome Frame, and how can I use it to see 3D maps with Internet Explorer?

    WebGL technology doesn’t work on Microsoft Internet Explorer, and you need WebGL to use 3D and Street Level views on

    We recommend that you use a web browser that works with WebGL. But if you can’t use another browser, or you’d just like to keep using Internet Explorer, you can install Google Chrome Frame for Internet Explorer.

  • What is HERE?

    HERE is the new name for Nokia Maps.

    With HERE, you can browse and explore places all over the world and:

    • Collect places and routes.
    • Search for addresses and places of interest, such as restaurants, hospitals and airports.
    • Share the places you find with your friends, or post them on your favorite social networking sites.
    • Get driving, walking and public transportation directions.
    • Explore cities and countries around the world with rich satellite imagery.
    • Add your own ratings, reviews and photos of places you've been.
    • See public transportation lines in hundreds of cities.
    • Sync your favorite places on with your phone.

    You don't need to download or install anything to use HERE.

  • How do I find a place – for example, a restaurant or other public place – on HERE?

    To find a place, type a search term into the search box. Be specific if you think there may be more than one result.

    For example:

    • Berlin Germany
    • Restaurants in New York
    • Mama Mia Pizzeria in London UK

    You’ll then see one or more possible matches. Select the one you want from the map or the list on the left-hand side to see more about the place.

  • I couldn’t find what I was searching for. What can I do?

    If you can't find what you're looking for:

    • Add a city or town to your search. There may be more than one place with the same name.
    • Check your spelling. HERE will try to guess what you mean, but correct spelling will make it more likely that you'll find what you're looking for.

  • I can't see the map. What can I do?

    To use HERE, you need:

    • A Windows PC with a recent version of Firefox, Chrome or Internet Explorer (Note: HERE 3D is only available for Internet Explorer with a special plug-in), or
    • A Mac with a recent version of Safari, Firefox or Chrome.

    You’ll also need to turn on JavaScript in your web browser settings.

    If you still can’t see the map, clear your browser history, delete all cookies and restart your browser.

  • Does HERE work on smartphones and tablets?

    HERE works on just about any smartphone or tablet.

    If you have a Nokia Lumia or other Windows Phone device, you can install the Nokia Maps app from the Windows Phone Store. If you have an Android, iOS or Windows 8 device, just open a web browser in your device and go to

    You can also sync the places you collect on HERE with your phone. Make sure you've got the HERE Maps app installed.

  • How do I change the look of the map?

    You can choose different ways to display the map:

    • Map view
    • 3D view
    • Satellite view
    • Terrain view
    • Community view

    To change the current map view, select the corresponding option on the top right-hand side of the map.

    To see public transportation lines, select the bus icon. If you're exploring one of the cities in which public transportation info is available on HERE, you'll see metro, subway, tram and rail lines, if the city offers all those modes of transportation.

  • How do I find my way around HERE Maps using the on-screen controls?

    You can find your way around HERE Maps with the on-screen controls, your mouse or your keyboard.

    Here's how to use HERE Maps with the on-screen controls:*

    • Use the slider on the map to zoom in and out. You can use the on-screen shortcuts to jump to country, state, city or street level.
    • Use the arrows to scroll around the map.
    • To see the map at street level, click on the image of the little man. Blue shading will appear on the screen where street-level pictures are available. Click on a blue area to 'drop' him there.
    • To look up, down and side-to-side (at street level), use the arrows inside the gray circle.
    • Move the N around the gray circle to look around you (at street level).
    • Click on the blue man to leave street level.
    • Click on the black spot next to 'Explore near your location' at the bottom center of the screen.

  • I’ve seen incorrect, duplicate, missing or out-of-date info for a place on HERE. What can I do?

    Shops and restaurants sometimes move or, sadly, go out of business. If you come across incorrect or missing info, please tell us. You can also suggest additional details, such as contact info or the web address of a place, so others can find out more about it, too.

    To report problems with a place, select More details in the info box pointing to the place on the map. Then select Report this place and follow the instructions.

    We double-check all proposed changes to place info, so you may not see yours right away.

  • Can I change the displayed language?

    HERE is available in 13 languages.

    Click My preferences at the top right of the screen (if you're signed in, you'll need to click on your name first), then choose your language from the drop-down list.

    Save changes* to confirm.

  • How do I find my way around HERE Maps using my mouse?

    You can find your way around HERE Maps with the on-screen controls, your mouse or your keyboard.

    To use HERE Maps with your mouse:*

  • Which city or region will I see when I visit HERE and can I change it?

    When you come to, we guess roughly where you are (using your IP address) and show your location on the map. Otherwise, the map will center at a default location.

    You can set or change the default location any time:
    * Click the preferences icon at the top right corner of the screen:
    * Enter the location you want in the search field.
    * Select the right result.
    * Click the save button.

  • How can I share a place with someone by email or on social networking sites (e.g. Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest)?

    To share a place with your friends or family, click the blue share icon in the info box pointing to the place on the map, or the one on the More details page. Sometimes you will also be offered Facebook or Twitter share buttons.

    From here, you can either copy the website address (URL) that directs your friends to that place or share the place straight to your favourite social networking site.

  • What does send to car do?

    With send to car, you can forward details for a place or a route to a car that has a built-in navigation system and is set up to work with the feature. Please note, not all cars are set up to work with send to car just yet.

    You can send as many place details and routes to as many cars as you like. Depending on the car, you can also send a short note with the info.

  • What's my car ID?

    The car ID is used to make sure that the places you send go to the designated car only.

    The car manufacturer provides the car ID, which is usually an email address or a vehicle identification number (VIN). If you need to find your car ID, please visit your car manufacturer's website, or contact them.

  • Why isn't the make of my car in the list?

    Several major car manufacturers already work with us to offer send to car in their vehicles. We're always trying to work with more, so you may be able to use send to car with your car make in the future.

  • Do I need to type in my car info every time I want to use send to car?

    No. Just sign in to your Nokia account before sending a place to your car, and your car's identifying info will be saved with your account so it'll be faster and easier to send a place next time.

  • I sent a place to my car, but it didn't show up. What's the problem?

    There could be a couple reasons for this:

    • There may be a set-up problem. Make sure your car's navigation system and internet connection are working properly and that you're using the correct car make and car ID.
    • Not all car models and navigation systems for some makes will work with "send to car", even if the manufacturer is included in the list on

    If you think neither of these is the culprit, try contacting your car's manufacturer to find out whether or not your car model and/or navigation system works with send to car.

  • What are collections?

    Collections are your personal record of the places and routes you want to remember or quickly find again on HERE. Like music playlists, you can organize what you've collected the way you want. See your collections on your computer, your tablet or your phone - they're always synced!

  • What happened to my Favorites?

    All the Favorites you saved on are now on You can find them as unsorted items in your collections and organize them by clicking on ‘Manage’.

  • How can I create a new collection?

    Create a new collection by clicking Collect next to a place or route on HERE. Once you’ve saved it, click Manage to organize it in a new collection.

    To help you remember what the collection is about, you can also add a description.

  • How can I delete a collection?

    Click the Delete collection link next to the collection name. We’ll ask you to confirm that you want to delete it. Once the collection is deleted, you can only restore it by creating it again.

    Items that weren’t saved in any other collection will be moved to your list of unsorted items.

  • How can I rename a collection?

    In your collections list, move your pointer over the one you want to rename and select View collection. Then click the little pencil next to the collection name and change the text.

  • How do I add or remove places or routes from collections?

    Click Manage next to an item. To add or remove it from a collection, select or deselect the item. You can also create a new collection here.

  • How can I rename a place or route I’ve collected?

    Click Manage next to the place or route. You’ll see a box with its name in large letters at the top. Move your pointer over the name, and a little pencil will appear. Click on the pencil and change the name.

  • What happens to a place or route I've saved but didn't put into a collection?

    Places and routes you collect automatically appear in your list of unsorted items. Click Manage to organize them in collections.

  • How can I see my collected items on the map?

    Just click on a collection. The list on the left shows all that you saved in that collection, and you'll also see their locations on the map.

  • Can I add a place or route to more than one collection?

    Yes. Select all the collections you want an item to be saved in when you’re collecting it, and then click ‘Done’.

    You can do this again any time by clicking ‘Manage’.

  • Can I view my collections on my phone or tablet?

    Yes. Just go to HERE Maps on your device (make sure you're logged in so everything gets automatically synced), and you'll be able to see all your collected items. If you have a Nokia Lumia, open the Nokia Maps app. You can also collect more places using your device and see them next time you log in on

  • How do I get driving, walking or public transportation directions?

    Select Directions at the top of the map and enter the starting point and destination (as well as any waypoints). Then select Get directions.

    You can also right-click anywhere on the map and select Directions from here or Directions to here to add a starting point or destination to your directions.

    You can also select Get directions in the info box pointing to a place on the map.

  • I want to see public transport lines, but I can't. Why not?

    We have public transportation info for hundreds of cities worldwide, and we're adding more cities all the time. If you can't see transportation lines for a certain city, we probably don't have info for that city yet. Also, some transportation lines may not show up on the map outside some city centers or beyond some city borders.

  • I can't get the directions I want. What could be the problem?

    Check the following:

    • Are you connected to the internet? You need to be in order to get directions with HERE.

    • Is your route really long? If you're trying to get directions between places that are very far apart (for example, between Stockholm and Madrid), or a route with many waypoints, you may need to hang on a bit longer while we get the route for you.

    • Are there roadways or paths between all your waypoints? If not, HERE can't get directions for you. For example, between New York City and London, there's quite a bit of water and no bridges, so no route.

  • Where are public transport directions available?

    You can get public transportation directions for a lot of cities and regions all over the world, and we’re constantly adding more.

    We always do our best to keep our public transportation info up-to-date and provide you with the most accurate routes and scheduling. For most cities, we can show you routes you can count on to get from A to B. In other cities and regions, we can show you the expected departure and arrival times for your trip using local transportation timetables.

  • How can I write a review for a place?

    You can write your own review of a place and share your experience with everyone on HERE.

    Select More details in the information box of the place. If the place already has some reviews, you can see a link to add your own. If there are no reviews for this place yet, you see a prompt to be the first to create one. Select the link, and follow the next prompts.

  • How can I add a photo for a place to HERE?

    In the info box pointing to the place on the map, select More details. On the place's details page, just click on the camera, then choose the photo you want to add.

    If there are no photos shown, why not be the first to add some? Again, just click on the camera, then choose a photo.

    Please make sure you own or have permission to use any photos you add to HERE.

  • What is Map Creator?

    Map Creator lets you add streets and roads in more than 100 countries on HERE. You can also change the map and make corrections if you find something wrong.

    With Map Creator, you can describe what type of road you’re adding and include info about the surface condition, how well the road is lit, how fast you can drive on it, if it’s a one- or two-way street and much more.

  • How can I see the changes people have made to the map?

    To see the changes people have made using Map Creator, select Community in the Map view drop-down menu.

  • What about street level imagery and privacy at HERE?

    We have a great respect for privacy and have built extensive features into our street level imagery technology to protect your privacy, in addition to giving careful consideration to the scope of our data collection.
    * Our technology includes industry-leading automated software and advanced algorithms used to detect and blur faces and license plates to protect individual privacy. Images are published only after this procedure.
    * Our focus is on key commercial areas, public roads and areas with high search or point-of-interest (POI) concentration.
    * The images captured are the same types that tourists or city residents would take while exploring by bus, by car or on foot.

  • How can I identify a vehicle and find more information?

    The vehicles will be clearly marked with our company name or logo. Drivers have brochures that provide details as to why we are collecting images and where questions and concerns can be addressed.

  • How and when will street level images be created?

    The primary focus will be on public roads of commercial interest and areas with high concentration of points of interest (POIs). Street level images will be created using cameras mounted on clearly marked cars that will travel through selected areas. These images are recorded in the vehicles and are later transferred to a secure facility for image and privacy processing. Filming and location dates can be found

  • How does street-level imagery affect privacy?

    As the cars travel through public roads they collect street-level imagery of its surroundings. That imagery inevitably includes not only the roads themselves, road signs, landmarks and the like but also persons and license plates of cars which we blur before publication. We operate our street-level imagery activities so that we comply with applicable laws governing the acquisition and publishing of imagery and in accordance with our privacy policy.

  • What measures do you take to ensure that street level pictures don't violate the privacy of individuals?

    We use industry-leading, automated software and advanced algorithms to detect and blur portions of images that may raise privacy concerns, including faces and license plates. The automated software and advanced algorithms are based on years of research investments.

  • How accurate is the blurring and how can I ask for blurring or removal of images?

    Our internal testing has shown that the privacy algorithms and detection rates are among the best available in the industry. As with all automated approaches, there is a chance that some images may come through that should have been blurred. For those instances, we provide internet-based services for individuals to identify and report concerns of any published images directly to us. Look for the reporting link where you saw the image.

  • What happens if someone requests an image be removed?

    Each removal request is individually handled and promptly reviewed by a team of experts to ensure the appropriate response.

  • Are you collecting Wi-Fi data?

    No, we are not.

  • Why does HERE want to know my location when I’m using

    With your permission, HERE will try to find your location to show you info that’s more meaningful to you.

    A green dot on the map shows your location.

    You can also Explore near your location to see nearby places on the map.

    HERE doesn’t store, save, send or process your location info in any other way. To learn more, check out our Privacy Policy.

  • Someone has added my private info to the map. What can I do to remove it?

    If your private info appears on a place on HERE, you can report it to have it removed.

    Search for the place and click on the name to see the place page. You can then click Report this place.

    We'll investigate and remove the place from the map if necessary. It could take up to 2 weeks to do this, so please be patient.

  • How can I see more detailed info about a place?

    In the info box pointing to the place on the map - or, in the list of search results - select More details to find out more about the place.

    You can see additional info from various sources, such as TripAdvisor. The availability, language, and amount of content provided can differ widely from place to place.

    For example, you may find a detailed description of the place, a photo gallery, contact info, reviews or links to similar places.

  • What is the 'Explore places' feature?

    When you explore a neighborhood or street at lower zoom levels, and you select Features then check the box next to Explore places, you'll see little markers on the map. Every one of these shows the location of a business or public place that may be of interest to you.

    Point your mouse at a marker to see the name of the place located there. If you want to know more about the place, just click the marker.

  • What are heat maps and how do I use them?

    If you turn on the Explore places feature and look at a large area on the map (such as a whole city), you'll see the colorful heat hap. Just select Features, check Explore places and choose the kinds of places you want to see on the map:

    • Shopping
    • Eat and drink
    • Going out
    • Sights and museums

    The darker the color on the map, the more Places of that type there are in the area.

    With heat maps, you can quickly and easily find the most popular areas for these kinds of places, even in a city you've never visited before.

  • For which cities do you have heat maps?

    We’ve got heat maps for most of the world’s major cities.

    To name but a few: Beijing, Berlin, Chicago, Hong Kong, London, New York, Paris, Sao Paolo, Shanghai, Singapore, Sydney and Vienna.

    And we’re always working to bring you heat maps for more cities.

  • How can I browse the places in a city or neighborhood?

    To take a look at what's around, you need to turn on Explore places.

    1. Zoom in to a city
    2. Click on Features in the top-right of the map
    3. Tick Explore places

    You'll now see little markers on the map. These show the location of a business or public place of interest.

    Point your mouse at a marker to see the name of the place located there. Click on the marker for more info.

  • How do I sync HERE with my phone?

    First, make sure the HERE Maps app is installed on your phone (If you have a Nokia Lumia, you already have HERE Maps.), and sign in to your Nokia account.

    Then follow these steps:

    • Open the HERE Maps app on your phone.
    • Tap my places (the star below the map).
    • Your list of saved places will be updated automatically and will show up as favorites. (At the moment, routes can't be synced.)

    If you add to or change your saved places on your phone or on, your most recent changes will be saved in both places after the next sync.

    Remember that using HERE Maps on your phone may send data through your cellular service provider’s network. Contact them if you want to find out about related costs, if any.

  • How do I change my sync settings?

    To change your sync settings:

    • Open HERE Maps on your phone.
    • Select Options > Settings > Synchronisation, or the tool icon and Synchronisation, depending on your device.
    • Change the settings.

    Most community edits are true, detailed and confirm the dedication of our community members and their love for making accurate maps of their neighborhoods and towns. However, we do find a few questionable edits. (For example, the person who drew a motorway through their neighbor’s lawn.)

    We hope you agree, then, that there are good reasons for not yet specifying publishing turnaround times. When Map Creator is fully launched (it’s currently in beta release), our product managers will announce official update cycles for the HERE portal and mobile devices, and your edits will almost instantly appear in the HERE community view.

    We’re always looking for the best ways to validate community edits before we add them to our map. This is a big part of our quality assurance and responsibility for the maps we deliver to our customers.

  • What's the community view?

    The community view shows all map edits made with Map Creator.

    To turn on the community view, click on the “Choose view” drop down in the upper right corner of the map. Then click “Community”.

  • How can I report a problem with the map of a country that’s not yet available for editing?

    Go to Map Creator and navigate to the place where you’d like to report a problem. Then right-click and choose “Report map changes” from the menu. Choose the type of problem or change you’d like to make, giving as much detail as you can.

    We’ll check your report and add it and other reports and changes to the map. If you’ve sent us a report already, please be patient: it can take a while to process all the reports we receive and add the changes to HERE and mobile devices.

  • Why can’t I edit maps for all countries?

    It’s because Map Creator is still in ‘beta release’, so it isn’t yet a full-fledged product.

    The idea behind Map Creator is to make contributing to the map a fast, easy and rewarding experience for our community members. There have been many improvements to Map Creator so far, but we still have some way to go before we can call it a full product. We want to make sure we get it right, so please bear with us.
