  • What devices is HERE Maps for Windows compatible with?

    HERE Maps is now compatible with all tablets and computers running Windows 8.1 or Windows RT 8.1. If you don't have the latest version, download it from Store.

  • Can I use HERE Maps for Windows with my computer?

    Yes. In addition to your tablet, you can use HERE Maps with any computer running Windows 8.1.

  • How do I use HERE Maps for Windows with my computer?

    You can easily browse the map and use all its features with your mouse and keyboard:

    • To move the map, drag it in the direction you want.
    • To zoom in on the map, double-click the map. To zoom out, hold down the shift key while double-clicking the map.
    • To see the address of a place on the map, click and hold the place.
    • To tilt the map, hold down the right mouse button and move the mouse pointer up or down.
    • To rotate the map, hold down the right mouse button and move the mouse pointer left or right.
    • To tilt or rotate the map, you can also click the icons on the right-hand side of the screen.

  • How can I check which version of HERE Maps I have on my tablet?

    In HERE Maps, swipe in from the right of the screen, and tap Settings > About.

  • In HERE Maps for Windows 8.1, how do I browse places in a city or neighbourhood?

    To take a look at what's around, swipe down from the top of the screen, and tap Explore.

    You can see nearby businesses and places of interest as a list and as little markers on the map. To see more info about a place, tap the list item or marker.

    To view only the places nearby that belong to a certain category, for example, restaurants:

    • If you're looking at the map full-screen, just tap a category icon on the left.
    • If you're looking at the place list, tap the down arrow and a category.

  • How can I find the Settings in HERE Maps?

    To find the settings in HERE Maps, swipe in from the right side of the screen and select Settings.

  • Do I need to have a Nokia account to use HERE Maps for Windows 8.1?

    No, but to sync your collected places so you can use them on your phone, tablet, or computer, you need to be signed in to your Nokia account.

    To sign in, swipe in from the right of the screen, and tap Settings > Sign in.

  • How do I sign in to my Nokia account in HERE Maps for Windows 8.1?

    Swipe in from the right of the screen, and tap Settings > Sign in.

  • What should I do if I see a blank white screen when I open the HERE Maps app?

    This could happen as a result of an incomplete app update. To complete the update, you'll need to uninstall the app and re-install it from the Store. To uninstall, long tap on the application icon on the start screen and select uninstall.

  • How do I find a place using HERE Maps for Windows 8.1?

    1. Swipe down from the top of the screen, and tap the search icon.
    2. In the search box, write search words, such as a street address or place name.
    3. Tap a place from the list of proposed matches, or tap the search icon.

  • How can I search in HERE Maps using geographic coordinates?

    Simply type or paste the coordinates in the search box. You can use any of these formats:

  • How can I see certain categories of places on the city page?

    With HERE Maps, you can choose the type of places you want to be displayed on city pages. On the city page, scroll to the left until you see Top Places. Choose the type of places you want to see in in the city page and on the map, e.g., Eat & drink.

  • Can I save a map with HERE Maps for Windows 8.1 and use it without a Wi-Fi or data connection (offline)?

    Yes, you can. To download a map to your device:

    • Swipe in from the right of the screen, and tap Settings > Download maps.
    • Select the country or region you want. You might not be able to use some app features offline.
    • You can also download maps from city pages.

  • How can I download a map from a city page?

    On the city page, swipe up from the bottom of the screen and select Download maps.

  • Can I choose the storage memory on which to save my downloaded maps using HERE Maps for Windows 8.1 (e.g., an SD card)?

    At the moment, the app can only save your maps on your device's hard drive.

  • Why am I not seeing information such as house numbers, 3D buildings, etc. for a country or region, even though I've downloaded a map of that country or region?

    Most HERE Maps features work without an internet connection, but some need one to work fully. Usually, you'll only see house numbers or 3D buildings on the map when your device has an internet connection.

  • I don't want to see buildings in 3D in HERE Maps for Windows 8.1. How can I change the view?

    HERE Maps always shows buildings in 3D, and that can't be changed. However, if you zoom out far enough, you won't see the buildings in 3D.

  • How do I zoom in or out in HERE Maps for Windows 8.1?

    Place 2 fingers on the map, and slide your fingers apart or together.

    If you'd rather use the + and - to zoom in or out, switch on the zoom controls. Swipe in from the right of the screen, tap Settings > Map options, and switch Zoom controls to On.

  • What can I do if HERE Maps for Windows 8.1 appears doubled or distorted on my PC?

    You could try turning off the stereoscopic effect for your graphic card. To do this for an NVIDIA graphic card, open the control panel in Windows 8.1 and, under Set up stereoscopic 3D, turn the setting off.

    Also, make sure you've got the most current graphic card driver installed on your PC.

  • How do I tilt the map?

    To tilt the map, place two fingers on the map and push upwards.

  • How can I return to 2D view after I've tilted the map?

    To go back to 2D view from 3D, swipe down the screen using two fingers.

  • Can I get voice-guided driving instructions in HERE Maps for Windows?

    No, but you can plan a driving route with HERE Maps and see all the manoeuvres before you set off.

  • How do I plan a route using HERE Maps for Windows 8.1?

    1. Swipe down from the top of the screen, and tap Directions.
    2. If you don't want to use your current location as the start point, tap the start point box, and edit it.
    3. Tap the destination box, and search for the place you want to go.
    4. Tap the walk, drive, or public transport icon. Public transport info is not available in all cities.

    Your route is shown on the map. To see a list of turns along your route, drag the screen divider to the right. To see a specific turn on the map, tap the turn.

  • How do I add a waypoint to my route?

    In the Directions view, enter your starting point and destination. Then add a waypoint to your route by selecting Add a waypoint and choose the place or street you want to go via. Repeat to add more waypoints to your route. Your route will be automatically updated.

    You can also rearrange your waypoints in any order by dragging and dropping them to the desired place in the list.

  • How can I change my route options in HERE Maps?

    To change your route options, go to Directions view and select Options. Use the sliders to choose which types of roads or routes you want to include or exclude, or in which units of distance you want your route to be displayed.

  • In HERE Maps for Windows 8.1, why is there a green circle around the place I'm currently in?

    If accurate positioning data isn't available, a green circle around the location dot shows the area you're probably in. In densely populated areas the accuracy is better, so the green circle is smaller.

    If HERE Maps can't find your location, it marks your last known location with a grey dot.

  • How do I change my default location?

    You can change your default location when you first open HERE Maps. When asked for your default location, select Change and enter the name of your default location.

    Sometimes, HERE Maps locates you in a place other than the one you're at. You can change your location later on by tapping on the green dot on the map and selecting Edit location, then searching for your location or moving the map to the new area.

    To recentre the map at your current location, tap the green dot again, and under your position is set, choose Automatically.

  • Can I share a location between my tablet and a smartphone with HERE Maps on Windows 8.1?

    Yes, you can. To share a place in HERE Maps on Windows 8.1, go to Explore, select a place on the map or from the list, swipe up from bottom of the screen and select Share. You can share a place e.g. via e-mail which you can then open on any other device, e.g. your smartphone. Note that the experience varies according to the platform of your target device.

  • What are collections in HERE Maps?

    Collections are your personal record of the places and routes you want to remember or quickly find again. Like music playlists, you can organise what you've collected the way you want.

    If you're signed in to your Nokia account, you can see your collections on your computer, your tablet, or your phone - they're always synced.

  • How do I save a place in HERE Maps for Windows 8.1?

    1. To search for a place, swipe down from the top of the screen, tap the search icon, and write your search words.
    2. When the place is shown on the map, swipe up from the bottom of the screen, and tap Collect.
    3. Tap the collection to which you want to add the place, or to create a new collection, tap Create.

  • How do I create a new collection in HERE Maps for Windows 8.1?

    1. Swipe down from the top of the screen, and tap Collections.
    2. Tap + Create your first collection, or, if you already have collections, tap +Create collection.
    3. Write a name for your collection, and tap enter.
    4. To help you remember what your collection is about, you can also add a description. Tap the collection and Edit.

  • How can I see my collected places on the map in HERE Maps for Windows 8.1?

    Swipe down from the top of the screen, and tap Collections and a collection. You can see the places you've saved as a list and on the map.

  • Can I add a place to more than one collection in HERE Maps for Windows 8.1?

    Yes, you can:

    1. Swipe down from the top of the screen, and tap Collections.
    2. Tap the collection and the place you want to add to other collections.
    3. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen, tap Manage, and select the collection or collections to which you want to add the place. You can also create a new collection while you're there.

  • Can I arrange my collections in alphabetical order in HERE Maps for Windows 8.1?

    Yes, you can:

    1. Swipe down from the top of the screen, and tap Collections.
    2. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen, and tap Sort > by A-Z.

  • Can I save a collection to the start screen in HERE Maps for Windows 8.1?

    Yes, you can:

    1. Swipe down from the top of the screen, and tap Collections.
    2. Tap and hold a collection, and tap Pin to start.

  • How do I delete a collection in HERE Maps for Windows 8.1?

    1. Swipe down from the top of the screen, and tap Collections.
    2. Tap the collection you want to delete.
    3. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen, and tap Delete collection.

    Items that weren't saved in any other collection are also removed. Once a collection is deleted, you can only restore it by creating it again.

  • I want to see public transport lines in HERE Maps, but I can't. Why not?

    Public transport info is available for hundreds of cities worldwide, and we're adding more cities all the time. If you can't see transport lines for a specific city, we probably don't have info there yet. Also, some transport lines may not show up on the map outside some city centres or beyond some city borders.
