Piazza Navona used to be a roman race-course, now, it is the heart of Rome´s baroque district. The Square (or more precisely elongated oval) is simply sublime. There are artists trying to sell you watercolors or cartoon portraits, talented (or not) performers, and always a great deal of tourists. On the center of the square is the divine four river fountain by the sculpture/painter/architect Bernini,( designer of St. Peter´s Square´s columns).
There are gelato shops all over the place so just relax, enjoy the beautiful cityscape before going back into discovering the rest of this beautiful neighborhood.
