How HERE is making positive strides in sustainability

Today, as we release our annual HERE Sustainability Report, we explore how location technology is a powerful tool in the fight against climate change.

In 2023, the world had its hottest year ever, breaking past temperature records and showing the climate crisis is getting worse. This alarming milestone proves how important it is to take big steps to fight climate change and deal with its escalating effects.

At the annual United Nations Climate Change Summit (COP28), world leaders came together for the first-ever global check-up on our climate efforts. They agreed we need to move faster to meet the goals of the Paris Climate Agreement and made a strong push for countries to switch from oil and coal to cleaner energy sources like solar and wind.

With the climate crisis becoming more urgent every day, it's clear we all — governments, businesses, groups and individuals — have to do more to save our planet for future generations.

At HERE, we make decisions with sustainability in mind, focusing on being innovative and responsible.

Over the past year, we've concentrated on improving how we address sustainability and environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues. We've set new goals, created a committee to give us advice on sustainability, got approval for our near-term and net-zero emissions targets by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), and improved how we choose our sources more sustainably.

Over the last few months, HERE has worked with SBTi to prove our dedication to rapid and deep emission cuts.

Partnerships played a pivotal role in our progress. Collaborations with customers and partners worldwide aimed to enhance urban living, improve transportation efficiency and reduce emissions.

For instance, we teamed up with Murata Manufacturing in Asia-Pacific for traffic management solutions in Jakarta, partnered with Iteris in the United States for smart mobility solutions — and worked with Hermes in Europe to optimize delivery routes.

Our collaborations also went beyond traditional partnerships, embracing multi-party alliances. Projects with Continental, IVECO, and SBD Automotive focused on safety, fuel efficiency in vehicles, and analysis of electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure in the U.S. and Europe.

HERE values ESG deeply, integrating social governance into our core values and operations. Employee resource groups like EARTH drive impactful initiatives such as tree-planting programs and wildlife conservation using cutting-edge technologies such as artificial intelligence and machine learning. These efforts align with our commitment to making a positive difference in the communities we serve.

But this is not the end of the story. To understand the full picture of how our projects, missions and values will progress in 2024, read the complete report.
